About Us

Negative Lab was founded in the San Fernando Valley in 2017 when owner Brian Wertheim purchased his first Fuji scanner. Since then, he has carefully constructed a team of highly competent photographers and technicians who understand the magic and mystery of film, and who endeavor to treat every roll as if it were their own.

Brian studied Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music, and then worked in post-production in Los Angeles and New York until the mid-2010’s. His personal work and love of cinema, music, and photography has always been the driving force behind the lab, and ultimately guides its core ethos: a creative vision is needed to provide excellent and consistent film scans.

The team at Negative Lab is knowledgeable in archival film processing, modern scanning techniques, and an expanding range of historical darkroom printing services.
